Anwesh Upadhyaya wins title in Sri Lanka

Orissa International Master Anwesh Upadhyaya defeated WATS Gunasinghe in the ninth and final round to emerge champion in the 2nd Buddhi International Chess Tournament, which concluded at Nittabuwa in Sri Lanka earlier today.

In the nine-round tournament top seed Upadhyaya scored 8.5 points with the help of eight wins and one draw. He received Rs 60,000 with trophy and gold medal. Altogether 223 players from India and Sri Lanka participated in the tournament, which was hosted by Buddhi School of Chess. School boy Ayush Patnaik, another player from Orissa, finished second in the under-10 age category, securing 6.5 points.
